Overview

A 5 days classic Rwanda tour extraordinarily combines gorilla trekking, chimpanzee trekking and game drives. The tour starts and ends in Kigali, and includes Rwanda’s iconic destinations Nyungwe National Park, Volcanoes National Park and Akagera National Park. Additional activities on the package include a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial site. You will also have a canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest and the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village tour near Volcanoes National Park.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali Genocide Museum & transfer to Nyungwe National Park

At your hotel in Kigali, our driver meets you to start your 5 days Classic Rwanda tour. A city tour is first, where you explore Kigali Genocide Museum before the transfer to Nyungwe National Park happens. Both of these were designated as UNESCO World Heritage sites. In the museum explore where 250,000 victims of the 1994 poignant Rwandan Genocide were buried. Learn more about this very sad experience. Transfer to Nyungwe National Park, a forest situated 177 km in the southwest. En route lunch is offered to energize you. Your dinner is at the lodge. Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walk

Early on this second day of your 5 days classic Rwanda tour take a warm breakfast already available at the lodge. Track chimpanzees in the forest and watch them for 1 hour without resting. Return to the lodge and have lunch before heading back to the forest for a canopy walk. Such an amazing experience presents the canopy, bird, primates, insects and mammals etc., right from the Igishigishigi trail. The bridge you walk on is 120 meters long, but suspended at 70m above the floor. Have dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes NP & Twin Lakes tour

On this third day, experience a transfer to Volcanoes National Park after breakfast. Check out and travel for 235km northeastwards. Lunch is on the way, while you soak in and photographic very lush scenes. Arrive at Kinigi and check in at your lodge. Drive to the twin lakes—Ruhondo and Burera. A guided boat cruise is the best way to explore one of these crater lakes situated west of Volcanoes National Park. Drive for dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla trek & Transfer to Akagera National Park

Take some early morning breakfast, and right after, check out and walk to the forest for a gorilla trek. Track gorillas, and for 1 hour, watch them as they forage and express their own behavior in the wild. Immediately drive to the southeast, where Akagera National Park is. Only 209 km by road separates Akagera with Volcanoes. Lunch is offered enroute, but dinner and overnight stay is at the lodge in Akagera.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Kigali

Wake up and check out of the lodge before an exploration of the park while driving along game tracks. Akagera National Park has a lot to offer beyond the Big 5—lions, leopards, buffaloes, rhinos and elephants. Various antelopes, zebras, giraffes and hyenas live here. View all of them and the birds. Drive to Kigali for your departure flight from the airport. The 5 days classic Rwanda tour comes to a happy end.
