Safari destinations that make up East Africa

Uganda, the Pearl of Africa.

From fertile rain forests, to snowcapped peaks, and open savannas, Uganda earns its historical name of the “pearl of Africa”, and supports a variety of primate populations along with exclusive Big 5 experience. The compact country is for travelers who seek to spend part of their lifetime with the gentle calm gorillas and vocal chimpanzees in their natural homes.

Rwanda, the land of rolling hills.

Rwanda has elevated itself as a modern safari destination. Its standard short routes, organized approach, short travel distances between tourism spots make it a favorite for many visitors. Rwanda is for travelers who want to be part of a thousand hills, and remarkable primate encounters that stay with many visitors forever.

Kenya, the land of classic wildlife experiences.

Kenya stands out for its iconic safari experiences. From the open endless plains of the Maasai Mara to the arid beauty of the north, the country offers one of the most mind-blowing wildlife events of the great wildebeest migration.

Tanzania, the land of vastness.

Both Serengeti’s ecosystem and the outstanding crater of Ngorongoro together with its open savannah areas makes the country one of the most iconic safari destinations in the region. It is also another favorite spot for travelers who seek to explore virgin areas, wildebeest sightings and luxury accommodation spots with spectacular views.

Best safari activities across East Africa

Best time for East African combined safaris

There are 2 major dry seasons that deliver the best safari travel conditions in the region, and definitely the best time overall. From June to October, along with December to February is the perfect time to visit all the three countries. This period brings firmer roads, thinner vegetation for spectacular wildlife views, and seamless gorilla trekking activities. The drier period also draws in the wildlife from the national parks to the only remaining water sources, hence making wildlife sightings effortless unlike during the rainy season.

The dry season also coincides with the great wildebeest migration period, especially around July to August during the river crossings of the Mara River. From January to March is another perfect window that hits the right spot when it comes to wildlife spotting, given the wildebeest calving in the areas of southern Serengeti, and is also ideal for seamless primate tracking.

Between March and May is when the heaviest downpours arrive, muddy impassable trails, along with October to November. However, it also brings beautiful looking landscapes, lush vegetation, negotiable prices and remarkable birding activities.
