Rwanda, is for travelers who seek modern tourism, conservation success stories, and deeper primate experiences. Regardless of its compact size, especially compared to its neighbors, the country has got so much to offer that it attracts both local and international travelers from across the world. After a tragic genocide history especially around 1994, Rwanda has elevated itself into a world class tourism hub, and funds generated from the tourism sector are often directed into infrastructural development, conservation works and community local projects.

Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes national park.

It is beyond dispute that the mighty Volcanoes national park is the only safari destination in the country where mountain gorillas can be searched and spent time with. Situated in the northwestern corner of Rwanda, the scenic park spans five volcanoes that are part of eight volcanoes in the Virunga range, and this includes Bisoke, Karisimbi Muhabura, Sabyinyo and Gahinga. What is even more exciting is how the spot harbors over one third of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making it the second largest host on earth.

Other National Parks in Rwanda.

Akagera National Park. The awe-inspiring park is located in the eastern corner of the country, and draws in visitors who seek an exclusive and intimate savanna safari experience. Akagera, which spans about 1,122 km² also supports the Big 5 wildlife action, and the key feature of the park, renowned as Lake Ihema, provides an opportunity to spot hippos, a variety of different bird species and crocodiles in one place. Many visitors often love to carry it out as a supplement on their bucket list.

Nyungwe forest National Park.

The primate hotspot is situated in the southwestern part of the country and harbors one of the continent’s oldest montane rainforests. Nyungwe covers over 970 km² where over 13 primate species find home, especially large troops of chimpanzees. The spot also supports a variety of different bird species making it a birders paradise.

Gishwati-Mukura National Park.

The tourism hub is one of those less visited national parks in Uganda and it offers seamless chimpanzee trekking, outstanding bird activities, and rich eco system. It is a newly established national park and has seen several conservation efforts.

The dry period.

The most suitable time to visit Rwanda is between June to September, during the long dry season and December to February, when the short dry season arrives. This favorable season offers firmer trails that are less slippery for seamless gorilla and chimpanzee tracking, whereas the vegetation is cleared shorter for better wildlife sightings especially in Akagera. For travelers seeking fewer crowds, favorable costs under clear skies, December to February offers another perfect window.

The wet season.

Just like the dry period, the wet period also brings both the long rainy season especially between March and May, and shorter rains around October to November, which offer lush vegetation and limited visitors, even though trails can become challenging to pass.
