The park is located in northwestern Uganda, Murchison Falls National Park spans approximately 3,893 square kilometers. It stretches from the Karuma Falls in the east to Lake Albert in the west and is bisected by the Victoria Nile, which divides the park into northern and southern sectors.

HISTORY OF THE PARK

HIKING TO TOP OF THE FALLS

This short but exciting hike allows visitors to experience the falls up close. It usually starts from the bottom after the boat cruise and takes about an hour.

CHIMPANZEE TRACKING (Budongo Forest)

Chimpanzee tracking in Murchison Falls National Park takes place mainly in Budongo Forest Reserve.

It offers a chance to see chimpanzees in their natural tropical rainforest habitat. The activity starts with a morning briefing before entering the forest with guides. Tracking can take 1–4 hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located.

Once found, visitors spend one hour observing their behavior and interactions. Chimpanzees are very active, often moving quickly and communicating loudly.

Other primates like colobus and red-tailed monkeys are also commonly seen. The experience is both adventurous and educational, highlighting primate behavior.

Main routes include:

1. Kampala – Masindi – Paraa (most popular)
2. Kampala – Gulu – Pakwach (northern route)

Visitors can also fly from Entebbe to airstrips like Pakuba or Chobe.

BEST TIME TO VISIT.

The park can be visited all year round, but the best time is during the dry seasons:

1. June to September
2. December to February

During these months, wildlife is easier to spot, and roads are more accessible.
