1 Day Group Tour to Ziwa Rhino sanctuary

Overview

This 1-day group tour to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is suitable for a group of visitors with limited time in Uganda. This is a great opportunity for your group to track and see a species that became locally extinct in the 1980s. Now they are making a comeback and their population is recovering significantly. In Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, rhinos though are the most popular residents, they are not the only ones. Mammals like zebras, antelopes, leopards, warthogs and giraffes also roam in the grassland and woodland habitats. Birds like shoebills, saddlebilled stork and collared sunbird live there. The 1-day group tour starts and ends in Kampala/Entebbe.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Rhino Tracking. Return and Departure

Start your day with early morning breakfast at your accommodation before our guide picks up the entire group. You will embark on a 171 km scenic drive to Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch in Nakasongola district via Gulu highway. Arrive and attend a short briefing where a ranger guide will say something about safe rhino tracking in the ranch. With a rhino tracking guide, you will head into the wild on foot to locate habituated southern white rhinos. The rhinos will be found after some minutes and you will be granted an hour to watch them.

The rhino tracking activity also offers views of waterbucks, bushbucks, giraffes, hartebeests, Uganda kobs, leopards, warthogs and zebras etc. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary houses 300 distinct bird species including golden crested crane, Nubian woodpecker, purple starling, piacpiac and black-headed heron etc. Enjoy a very delicious lunch and start driving back to Kampala. Once you have arrived, you will be dropped at your point of convenience, either at your accommodation or Entebbe Airport.

Optional activities to do at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch offers day nature walks, night nature walks, birdwatching and canoe rides among other activities. However, to experience all these activities, you will need more than a day at the destination. Birdwatching and canoe rides are best done in the morning especially if your plan was to see the rare shoebill stork. Of course the night nature walk is done from dusk to nighttime, which makes it necessary to spend the night at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
